Overview
The Y Canberra Region plays an important role in supporting children and young people across the ACT to feel connected, confident and part of their community. Their programs span early learning, recreation, youth empowerment and inclusive sport, offering places where young people can build skills, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
They run long-standing programs like RAID Basketball, which has brought joy and social connection to people with intellectual disabilities for more than 40 years. The Y is also strengthening youth voice through initiatives like Youth Parliament, giving young people aged 16-25 the chance to learn about civic processes, draft bills and debate issues in the ACT Assembly.
Across all of its work, The Y is focused on prevention, inclusion and meeting young people where they are. Their programs respond to the pressures many young people face in Canberra, including cost-of-living stress, housing insecurity, loneliness and limited networks for those without family support. By creating safe, inclusive and meaningful opportunities, The Y helps ensure children and young people can thrive and feel valued in the place they call home.
