Backing First Nations changemakers: Georgia’s journey as a Snow Entrepreneur

2 June 2025

When Georgia Weir founded Deadly Runners, she didn’t set out to create a social enterprise. She just wanted to “get more mob moving”. But today, her grassroots initiative is doing far more than that, it’s changing lives and communities across the NSW South Coast.

Deadly Runners is a First Nations-led community running program that focuses on fitness as the first step towards change. Through connection, coaching, community leadership, and qualifications, Georgia is helping First Nations communities across the NSW South Coast and beyond to take charge of their physical and mental wellbeing.

As a Snow Entrepreneur, Georgia received not just what she calls “game-changing financial support”, but the wrap-around mentoring and networks that helped turn her passion into meaningful social change.
“I never set out to start a social enterprise, and I was learning as I went. The Snow Fellowship gave me the support and emotional safety to ask questions, make mistakes, and keep going. I wouldn’t be where I am without it.”

She says the experience opened doors she wouldn’t have otherwise had access to and gave her the confidence to walk through them. “It put me in rooms I don’t think I would’ve got into otherwise or would’ve taken me a lot longer. When you build those networks, that’s where innovation and collaboration happen. And that directly benefits the people I work with.”

Since joining the program, Georgia has been named a Westpac Social Change Fellow and a finalist in the 2024 NAIDOC Person of the Year. She says the Fellowship “turbocharged” her journey giving her the confidence and clarity to grow.

And it’s not just Georgia who’s benefiting. From family groups running together, to participants gaining their first qualifications, to young leaders becoming coaches, Deadly Runners is building long-term change, one step at a time.
