Suzie Miller recognised at Saluting Sydney Women 2026

For more than 17 years, we have partnered with Sydney Women’s Fund to advance gender equality and create greater opportunity for women and families across Greater Sydney. Together we support grassroots leadership, community-led solutions and initiatives that help address some of the most pressing challenges facing women today.

That shared commitment was celebrated at the 12th annual Saluting Sydney Women event, where internationally acclaimed playwright, screenwriter and novelist Suzie Miller was recognised for her outstanding contribution to social justice and the advancement of women. Held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the annual event honours women whose leadership and influence have helped shape a more equitable future for Sydney and beyond.

Miller has built a remarkable career bringing complex issues of justice, power and inequality to audiences around the world. Before turning to writing, she worked as a human rights and criminal defence lawyer, representing some of society’s most vulnerable people and later co-founding Australian Lawyers for Human Rights. Her experiences in the legal system would go on to inform a body of work that explores the human impact of injustice and challenges audiences to see familiar systems through a different lens.

Her best-known work, Prima Facie, has become a global phenomenon. The award-winning play has been translated into more than 30 languages and performed in more than 50 countries, sparking international conversations about sexual assault, consent and access to justice. The production has received widespread critical acclaim and has since been adapted into a bestselling novel, with a screen adaptation also underway.

The event also highlighted the ongoing impact of Sydney Women’s Fund, which since 2008 has invested more than $20 million in programs supporting women and families across Sydney. Through research, advocacy, strategic community investment and support for grassroots organisations, the Fund works to build a city where women are safe, valued and able to thrive.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the transformative role women play in creating social change and to recognise the power of storytelling as a force for progress. Suzie Miller’s work continues to elevate women’s experiences, challenge injustice and inspire action, making her a fitting recipient of this year’s Saluting Sydney Women honour.
